친정 아버지께서는 청국장을 좋아하셨다. 엄마는 종종 푹 삶은 콩을 따끈한 아랫목에 놓고 정성스럽게 담요를 덮어 두셨다. 하루가 지나면서 방 안엔 결코 좋은 향기라고 할 수 없는 청국장 뜨는 냄새로 가득했다. 코를 막고 얼굴을 찡그리고 냄새 난다고 불만을 터뜨리면 엄마께서는 청국장을 끓여 먹으면 너무 맛있으니까 조금만 참으라고 위로를 해주셨다. 드디어 보글보글 끓여진 청국장이 저녁 밥상에 올랐다.
