SUV crashes into Union Township dry cleaning business

[brooklyn.news12.com – 2024.08.30] A Union Township dry cleaning business was seriously damaged after an SUV drove into it Friday morning, according to police.

According to Union Township Police Captain Scott Breslow, it’s believed that there was some sort of medical episode before the crash at 1426 Morris Ave.

Police say that the blue SUV was cut off by a second driver coming from the opposite direction making a left turn. The two cars then crashed into one another. Before the blue SUV went right into the dry cleaners.

A crosswalk signal just outside the cleaner’s was also knocked over. The SUV has been towed and the driver was taken to Overlook Hospital with minor injuries, according to Breslow.

The owner, who wished to remain anonymous, said the business has been in the family for the past 50 years. He’s been operating it with his wife for the past 15 years. He was the only one inside at the time of the crash, but his wife is typically seated right by where the SUV crashed.

Nicole Kwashie, a regular customer, dropped everything and rushed over to the cleaner’s after seeing news coverage about the crash.

“My first concerns are, ‘Is she OK?’ because my husband comes here more often and he said she typically sits right there,” said Kwashie. “This is their business. That’s also another concern. How do they continue working with this?”

The business will remain boarded up until repairs are complete.
