[wilsonvillespokesman.com – 2023.04.21] After 32 years of caring for Wilsonville’s dry cleaning, David and Myung Lee are retiring as the owners of Town Center Dry Cleaners.
Their last day will be Friday, April 28, as they hand over the reins of one of Town Center’s oldest businesses to a new owner.
“We want to give a big ‘Thank you’ for supporting our small business, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Lee wrote in a letter to his customers announcing his retirement, specifically noting his appreciation for the mayor and the Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce.
Lee opened Town Center Dry Cleaners in 1991 after four years in the U.S. Army.
“At that time, the population of Wilsonville was approximately 3,500, and today, it is almost 30,000,” Lee wrote.
A longtime Wilsonville resident, Lee raised his two children in town, and both graduated from Wilsonville High School. He said his business enabled him to put his children through college. Today, they’re both happily married, he said, and he has two grandchildren.
“I love Wilsonville,” he said, noting his kind neighbors especially.
Though Lee is sad to leave the business, he said he’s excited for retirement. He and his wife plan to visit their family in South Korea, spend time with their grandchildren and play tennis as members of the Charbonneau Tennis Club. They will also continue to be active members of the Korean War Defense Veterans Association of Oregon.
Lee said his final days as the owner of Town Center Dry Cleaners have been filled with hugs and bittersweet goodbyes to his customers.
“Many memories and friendships were made throughout our time here,” Lee wrote.
