Man assaults Long Island dry cleaner employee, puts him in chokehold

[audacy.com – 2022.09.18] A 33-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly beat up an employee at a Long Island cleaners, held a knife to him and put him in a chokehold, police said.

The Great Neck Plaza man, James Orfanos, went into Alpian Cleaners, which is just down the street from where he lives, around 9:30 a.m. and caused a disturbance, authorities said.

Orfanos went into an employees-only area of the store and attacked a 27-year-old man, punching and kicking him, according to cops.

The assault escalated when Orfanos allegedly held a knife to the man’s head before putting him in a chokehold and throwing his phone causing damage.

Orfanos fled the scene in a vehicle while the victim suffered multiple contusions and injuries to his neck and left elbow. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Police later arrested Orfanos and charged him with 2nd degree assault, criminal mischief, menacing, burglary and criminal obstruction of breathing.
