Fire rips through dry cleaning shop in Ventura

[vcstar.com – 2024.03.14] A fire ripped through a dry cleaning business in an east Ventura shopping center Thursday evening.

The blaze was reported at 5:18 p.m. inside Clearwoods Dry Cleaning at 7826 Telegraph Road, said Jeremy Henderson, battalion chief for the Ventura Fire Department.

No one was injured. The cause of the fire was still under investigation as of Friday morning, although officials believe the blaze originated in the front of the building.

The business sustained extensive damage but the building was not considered a total loss, Henderson said.

Three businesses in the strip mall — a nail salon, a coffee shop and Two Trees Restaurant and Taps — suffered smoke damage, he said Friday morning.

Fire crews arrived within about six minutes of the 911 call and spotted heavy fire and smoke coming from the outside of the building, Ventura Fire officials said in a news release. They cut holes into the roof of the building to help attack the fire, they said.

The blaze was put out within 30 minutes. More than 40 firefighters from Ventura, Oxnard and Ventura County departments responded. Crews stayed on scene for several hours.
