Yonkers, NY – Firefighters battled flames that shot through a row of businesses at the corner of Yonkers and Seminary avenues on Tuesday(1/12) morning.
The four-alarm blaze broke out shortly before 6:45 a.m. and caused multiple collapses in the one-story building, the Yonkers Uniformed Fire Officers Association said in a Facebook post.
“The building of origin is basically destroyed,” Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Citrone said. “The store next door had residential apartments on top, and that was saved, but the original building with four stores is a total loss.”
Flames and smoke were seen leaping out of the row that includes Tibbetts Park Market deli, Miracle Cleaners and Farmers Insurance.
There was heavy fire through the roof when firefighters arrived, the union said, and all fire companies in the city were working there.
A small explosion through the cockloft in the roof blew out a portion of the rear wall, and one firefighter was hurt on the scene.
The fire was deemed under control shortly after 10 a.m.
