Hallak Cleaners Celebrates 60 Years of Family, Expertise and Exceptional Garment Care

[prnewswire.com – 2026.09.22] Hallak Cleaners is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026, marking six decades of family ownership and specialized garment care in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. The company will commemorate the milestone with October open houses at its Hackensack and Manhattan stores.

The late Joseph Hallak Sr. founded Hallak Cleaners on Manhattan’s Second Avenue in 1966, following his start in the industry with Eiffel Cleaners in East Orange, NJ, in 1955. Today, his sons John-Claude and Joseph Hallak Jr. oversee retail and production operations, while their brother Robert specializes in interior textiles, suede and leather care.

The brothers remain closely involved in daily operations, carrying forward their father’s emphasis on craftsmanship, technical knowledge and personal service.

Hallak expanded its capabilities over the years, opening a 5,000-square-foot production plant in Bergen County in 1983 and a 12,000-square-foot facility in 1994. According to the company, it became New York City’s first GreenEarth-licensed dry cleaner in 2009.

Its services range from everyday garment cleaning to the care of couture, formalwear, wedding gowns, leather, suede, fur, handbags and fine household textiles. Hallak also provides specialized cleaning, restoration, repairs and after-sales services for luxury brands and design houses.

The company emphasizes continuing education through affiliations with the National Cleaners Association, the Drycleaning & Laundry Institute, the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists and America’s Best Cleaners. Its service area includes Manhattan, Bergen County, Westchester, Greenwich and Short Hills, with summer service in the Hamptons.

Anniversary open houses will be held October 6 at the New Jersey store, 172 Johnson Avenue in Hackensack, and October 8 at the New York store, 1232 Second Avenue in Manhattan. Both events will run from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with light refreshments served.

As part of the celebration, both locations will collect new and gently used coats of all sizes for NCA Coats for Kids, benefiting children and families in need.
