Suspect identified in dry cleaners armed robbery that left deputy hospitalized

[wpbf.com – 2024.08.28] The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 73-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery in Greenacres that left a deputy hospitalized Tuesday.

Deputies say the suspect, Glenn Gotell, was in the process of robbing a clerk at Cost-Less Cleaners located on Jog Road around 4:31 p.m. when an off-duty deputy entered the business to pick up his clothes.

When the deputy intervened, the suspect stabbed him twice, once in the torso and also in his hand.

Gotell is accused of leaving and stealing the deputy’s patrol car, ditching it at the intersection of Chickasaw Road and South Jog Road and running into the Palm Beach County Greenacres Library Branch.

That’s where the suspect was found and arrested.

According to Virginia court documents, in 2004, Gotell was convicted of burglary and received a 20-year prison sentence with indefinite supervision upon release. After serving 15 years, he was released in 2019.

It appears he violated the terms of his release and is now facing additional jail time in Virginia.

In Palm Beach County, Gotell is facing four charges, including armed robbery. PBSO said the stabbing investigation is still active.
