Black smoke damage can be seen on the launderette’s wall while the fire led to two dryers being destroyed and part of the launderette ceiling now needs to be replaced.
Launderette owner Twana Babarasell said he does not yet know the true cost of the damage but estimates it could be between £15,000 to £16,000.
Neighbours were first alerted that something was wrong at the business after smelling smoke which was coming from the property.
Mr. Babarasell said: “I walked in and opened the door and it wasn’t a big fire but it was the top of the machine and escalated to the ceiling.
“It happened in the early evening, but if it was later, it could have been worse.”
Mr. Babarasell has owned the business for the past three years and, in that time, has revamped the shop.
However, he now fears the launderette will have to undergo another costly renovation.
