Nelson Cleaners is located at2 Nelson Ave. in Great Kills.
The firefighter was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.
About 60 firefighters and 12 units responded to the fire called at 1:04 a.m. at 2 Nelson Ave. The 20-by-40-foot building was unoccupied at the time, according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.
The FDNY response ended more than two hours later, at 2:52 a.m., the FDNY spokesman said.
The dry cleaning business is situated next to the Great Kills train station.
Shattered glass and other debris were scattered in front of the metal frames that are all that remains of the broken door and windows at the front of the store. A tattered American flag still hangs inside the entrance to business that has extensive damage to the interior.
A worker at the store declined to comment.
