Thruway Plaza Site In Nanuet Applies For Brownfield Program

[patch.com – 2024.02.21] The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program application for a site at Thruway Plaza on Route 59 in Nanuet.

308 -330 Route 59 West are the addresses associated with the site. The application came from Thruway Plaza of Rockland and the site ID number is C344091.

The brownfield site is part of a 6.5-acre parcel which is currently active and zoned for commercial use. The current tenant is QuickChek and the remaining current tenants of the parcel consist of Dunkin Donuts, QuickChek, Taco Bell/KFC and Cell Towers.

Between 1992 and 2013, the site was occupied by a dry-cleaning facility operating under Charles’ French Cleaners, Nanuet Cleaners, Outstanding Cleaners and/or Lake Cleaners.

Based upon investigations conducted to date, the primary contaminants of concern for the Site include chlorinated solvents and petroleum-related hydrocarbons in groundwater. The groundwater contamination is centered in the area of the former dry cleaners.

The remedial program is proposed to start in March. A Certificate of Completion is anticipated within three years of the commencement of the remedial activities.

Access the application and other relevant documents online through the DECinfo Locator.

The documents are also available at the document repository located at the Nanuet Public Library, 149 Church Street, Nanuet, NY 10954.
